why running as root ? you need to set the appropriate permissions for /dev/fw0
an easy way of doing this it to add chmod 644 /dev/fw0, (or 666) to
/etc/rc.local that way you will be able to use dvgrab with a normal
user.
More experienced users can use udev or PolicyKit to do this.

Which version of dvgrab and libraw1394 are you using ?
There might be a need to report to the debian maintainers of the
related packages.
Also you seems to use a "rt" kernel. Maybe that doesn't solve.
(i know the CCRMA kernel-rt maintainer for Fedora claims that -rt
doesn't support juju, don't know if it is because of special driver
support for audio via firewire or the real-time stuff).
