I was desperate, so I tried installing cinelerra under FreeBSD, using its Linux
compatibility layer.
Here's what happened. Setting the compat layer to mimicing Linux 2.6.16, the
Cinelerra GUI is frozen on startup, only the tip-of-the-day window is
responsive. But when setting the compat to 2.4.2 - no kidding - Cinelerra works
like a charm. It's fast, as if my modest laptop were a real RAM-pumped,
multicore editing champ (it's not).
Could it be something with the 2.6 kernel compared to the 2.4 series that's
wrong here??
