Well, I only volunteered (off the list) after Paul said he couldn't
track down you or Jim Trocki. I've already got the slides done, since
I gave the talk at the Pittsburgh Perl Workshop a few weeks ago.
Here's the abstract:

Perl's a great language for doing text processing, and that makes it
a great language for doing Natural Language Processing as well. CPAN
has an abundance of NLP modules, ranging from modules that pluralize
English words and sort Klingon, to interfaces to complex databases
like WordNet. In fact, there are so many NLP modules on CPAN that
trying to make sense of them all can be a daunting task for any Perl
programmer. In this talk I'll do a survey of NLP modules on CPAN,
concentrating on the modules under Lingua::EN::*. I'll also show how
to use Perl to interface with the CMU link grammar parser libraries
and with the WordNet database.

I could do this talk this month, or next, or whenever. But I'd like
to hear about PDL, too. People keep telling me I should try it, but I
can never wrap my head around how it works.
